On april 14th Miku (my lovely Japan<>Oranda exchange friend) and her friends invited me to go for kaiten sushi, which is sushi that comes by on a conveyor belt as if you were waiting for your luggage at the airport, only this time tasty luggage.
Me and most of the exchange students went out to meet up with Miku and her friends at Kokusaikaikan station and from there we traveled to Nijo. The sushi place was a short walk from the station!
It was super busy in the place and eventhough we had put a reservation we had to wait for about 10 minutes. Must be populair?
Once inside we were seated on two different tables but the tables where an arm length away.Next to your table is a conveyor belt on which sushi comes past in a little bit hasted pace, making us grab sushi plates in a frenzy.
Every plate, with some exceptions, cost 100yen, which is basically 0,70 euro cents. Heaven~
I wish my boyfriend was here, we would have had such an amazing piggin' fest just the two of us.

Many tamago nigiri coming by, nom nom |
Here's a video of the special order coming our way at amazingly fast speed.
There were alot of weird sushi I had never seen before, like half egg sushi or burger nigiri.
They tasted great actually though you would expect it to be poor quality because it is mass produced, but compaired to most sushi I have eaten back in Holland this was good!

burger nigiri, looks like poop but tastes delicious |
Had 4 desserts, they were sooo yummy! Luckily I had my partner in dessert crime sitting next to me, Aapo, who also ate about 4 desserts. Or did we eat 6? I don't (want to) remember...
We ended the night by participating in the typical Japanese youngster pasttime "Purikura", which means print club and which is basically a hightech photobooth. We crammed all 9 of us into one of the photobooth where we were told by the machine to take on certain poses.
The machine turns your skin beautiful and your eyes sparkly and big. Magic.
Outside of the booth you can edit the photos with drawings, text and stickers before it is printed out.
These are the results!
Doing it again next time guys!

Dear Evita,
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI've read your story about daily bike drive tot the university. And a very beautiful landscape surrounds you. An amazing sightseeing everyday. Japan is the country with a lot bike-roads, isn't it? But, take care when you climb up en go down. Don't fall.
I got a good impression of your daily life in college. I also saw that you can eat in the cafeteria also tasty. For now, a nice stay in Kyoto.
Lots of love, Uncle Sjef jr.
Wat een lekkere sushi!! En Evita 4 desserts?? Het zijn weer hele leuke fotoos. En dat filmpje op YouTube geeft een goeie indruk.♥
